Tenure-track assistant professor in Design Studies.

Candidates should have a record of excellent teaching and scholarly work in
design studies with a critical and interdisciplinary approach to the
history, theory, and practice of design, and with a focus on graphic design
and typography. Additional areas of expertise might include: design
literacies; design and technology studies; information design; design for
social advocacy; social media; media and communication theory; cultural
theory.

The preferred candidate will have academic or professional teaching
experience in such courses as graphic design, digital publishing, and
interactive media. In addition, professional experience in design is
desirable. Candidates will be expected to contribute to curriculum
development in our undergraduate and graduate programs. Ph.D. in hand by
August 15, 2015 preferred but M.F.A. with potential for research and
creative work will be seriously considered.

The department's graduate and undergraduate programs afford faculty unique
opportunities to teach and engage in research that both shapes and benefits
from a rich multi-disciplinary environment. The department offers
undergraduate major degrees in English; Liberal Arts; Communication,
Culture, and Media; and Scientific and Technical Communication, and
doctoral and master degrees in Rhetoric, Theory, and Culture. The usual
tenure-track teaching load is 2 courses (6 hrs.) per semester. Please see
